Ready for Some Football

Well, it's time again for football. My beloved Michigan Wolverines will take the field again this Saturday against the Vanderbilt Four Tops, or whatever the hell they call themselves (I kid, of course -- I'm just taking liberties with the fact that Vandy's mascot name is the same as a Motown group. They're actually known as the Vanderbilt Vandellas). (I'm kidding again. It's Vanderbilt and the Pips.) (Okay, I'm done now. For now.)

Anyway, I'm hoping that the Wolverines can improve upon the debacle known as last season, which was the worst in over 20 years. After last season, the kind of people who said I was crazy two seasons ago when I blasted Lloyd Carr for not being on top of things were all of a sudden, a mere season later, jumping on the "Lloyd might need to go" bandwagon.

Sadly, this year I sold my season tickets. After having become a homeowner, suddenly the overhead was a bit much to justify the expense. Still, after many years of dutifully going to all the home games, it will almost be refreshing to be able to kick back and relax while watching the games on my HDTV with some friends (and beer). Everyone needs a sabbatical every now and again. Plus, now that I don't live in Ann Arbor anymore, and the Michigan Department of Transportation has just about succeeded in putting every road between any two places I need to go in all of Michigan under crippling construction, it will be nice not to have to fight traffic. Plus I'm going to a friend's wedding on Saturday, so it's not like I'd have gotten to go see the Wolverines play the Vanderbilt Supremes (maybe I wasn't done) anyway.

Anyhow, Lloyd, if you're listening, I hope you've been working on how to pick things up again. 7-4 regular season followed by losing our asses in an obscure bowl ain't gonna cut it again this year. Michigan's better than that.
